As of January 26th, 2016, appointments for Schengen visa (short-term visa up to 90 days, e.g. business visa/visa for family visit) und national visa (long-term visa more than 90 days, e.g. family reunion visa/student visa) have to be booked seperately.
Visa and passport applications can be handed in as long as you have booked an appointment through the website of the Embassy.
Unfortunately, there is no other possibility to book an appointment. The waiting period can not be shortened. Requests for earlier appointments cannot be answered. We kindly ask for your understanding.
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) of the United Nations has decided to phase out all non-machine readable passports as of November 25th, 2015. Handwritten Afghan passports will not be accepted anymore as of November 25th, 2017. Visa applicants holding handwritten passports are advised to submit machine readable passports.
Please note that the German Embassy in Kabul can only accept your visa application if the main destination of your journey is the Federal Republic of Germany.
If your destination is another Schengen country, you must apply for your visa at the Embassy of this country.
The processing time for a Schengen visa takes at least ten days, in case of a long-term visa considerably longer.
Visa applications for family reunion take several months to be processed. The required official document check alone takes about 4 months. We therefore kindly ask to refrain from requesting any updates in the early stages of the application. Visa applicants are informed when they may contact the Embassy again to receive the decision.
Please note that your name must be identical in your passport, Tazkira and in the translation of the Tazkira. Surnames used in the new passports (Numbers start with O0) have also be specified in the Taskira and the official translation. If this is not yet the case, please correct the documents accordingly before applying for a visa.
Sending of Documents
Please do not send any documents (e.g. invitation letter) to the Embassy in advance. All required documents have to be presented by the applicant when he applies in person at the visa section. Documents sent to the visa section in advance via mail/fax or post will not be kept and will not be factored in the visa application. If there was any official correspondence with the Embassy in advance to the visa application, please hand in a copy of it with the rest of the application.
Fees at the visa section/consular section are only payable in USD (cash).
Forms and Leaflets
These are the Embassy's leaflets concerning the different categories of visas issued at the Embassy in Kabul and the application form in PDF-format.
Please note that application forms for Schengen Visas are also available at the visa section - free of charge. Persons outside the visa section offering their services for the visa procedure neither work for nor work with the consent of the visa section. In case these persons do promise any favour regarding the issuance of a visa, please report to the visa officer at the counter.
